Important Rules

  • Voting is only available during designated voting windows (announced on-air).
  • Each voting method allows up to 10 votes per contestant per episode.
  • You must be 13 years or older to vote.
  • VPN usage may invalidate your votes.
  • Votes from outside the United States may not be counted.
  • The producers reserve the right to adjust vote totals in case of technical issues.

When does voting open?

Voting opens during the live show broadcast and typically stays open until the following morning at 8 AM ET. Exact times are announced on-air.

How many times can I vote?

You can vote up to 10 times per contestant, per voting method, per episode. That means you could cast up to 30 total votes per contestant using all three methods.

Do I need an account to vote?

Text voting requires no account. Online and app voting require a free ABC / American Idol account.

Can I vote for multiple contestants?

Yes, you can vote for as many contestants as you like, with up to 10 votes each per method.

Is voting free?

Online and app voting are free. Text voting may incur standard SMS charges from your carrier.

What happens if the app crashes during voting?

If the app crashes, try restarting it and voting again. Your previously submitted votes are still counted. You can also use SMS or web voting as a backup.
